Paying Homage to Rod The Mod!
On Sunday night, I took my kids (17&16) to see Rod Stewart at Nokia Theater in Grand Prairie Texas. The venue was very nice and it seemed like almost all of the 6300 seats were full. The stage was set in all white with white lacy curtains all around, in true Rod fashion, with a giant "Celtic Football Club" emblem in center stage. It was my 4th time seeing him. He still is a master showman at 63! The biggest difference now is that it felt more like a Vegas show than a rock concert. Rod surrounds himself with excellent musicians, as he has throughout his career. His 10 person band were very good and tight. Rod sings much "softer" now to keep his tone good, still raspy, still heartfelt, but definitely softer. The 4 background singers blend nicely with him. His show was a fun experience for my kids and me, as always. I am glad I went, as I say often these days, you never know if you will get the chance again to see some of the true great rockers. I went home that night and played a bunch of his videos from the 80's on YouTube and relived the first 3 times I had seen him in my mind with very fond memories. Thanks Joey for a memorable evening!
